Russia and Turkmenistan will play an important role in the implementation of the International North–South Transport Corridor, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said following his meeting with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Wednesday in Ashgabat.
According to Lavrov, the corridor is a promising initiative that could significantly enhance the region’s position in logistics and transport connectivity across the Eurasian continent, TASS reported.
“Russia and Turkmenistan will play an important role in the implementation of this truly promising initiative, which will significantly strengthen the position of our entire region in terms of logistics, the development of the Eurasian continent, and the establishment of links between the northern and southern seas,” the minister said.
He added that during his meeting with the head of state, the sides also discussed holding the next session of the Intergovernmental Commission. Both parties expressed interest in agreeing on the timing of the meeting in the near future.
